Marshmallow Tower Challenge @ Lakeside Middle School

October 29, 2025
Lakeside Middle School

Students explored fundamental engineering principles, including the center of gravity and the strength of triangular structures. They then applied this knowledge in a fun, hands-on challenge to build the tallest and most stable tower using only marshmallows and toothpicks.

Scribble Bots @ Lakeside Middle School

December 3, 2025
Lakeside Middle School

In this hands-on workshop, 7th grade students built their own scribble bots using simple electronics and creative design. While experimenting with movement, they learned about the engineering concept of offset weight and how it affects vibration and motion. Students worked collaboratively, tested different configurations, and created unique art through their robots’ patterns. This workshop helped introduce real engineering thinking in a fun, accessible, and highly engaging way.

HorizonSTEM Cybersecurity Workshop

January 19, 2026
Online

In this interactive online workshop, students dove into the world of cybersecurity. They learned the basics of how to protect themselves online and explored potential career paths in the tech industry.

STEM Workshop @ Lakeside Middle School

March 25, 2026
Lakeside Middle School

In this hands-on workshop, 6th grade students built their own hydraulic bridges using simple materials and creative engineering. While working through the design process, they learned about Pascal's Law and how hydraulic systems use fluid pressure to transfer force and create movement. Students worked collaboratively, tested different structural configurations, and applied scientific principles to real construction challenges. Watching them troubleshoot and refine their designs reflected exactly the kind of critical thinking we aim to develop at Horizon STEM. This workshop helped introduce foundational concepts in physics and engineering in a way that was both accessible and highly engaging — and the enthusiasm in the room made it clear these students are ready for more.
